Explore and admire Auckland's largest regional park, the Waitakere Ranges, on this 5 hour afternoon eco-tour. The perfect way to get out of the city and enjoy the nature on Auckland's door step. You'll be picked up from your centrally located Auckland hotel before traveling 30-minutes west to the Waitakere Ranges. From here travel further west to enjoy a walk in the rainforest before visiting the beautiful Piha Beach for a walk on the soft black sand. Afternoon refreshments are provided along with full commentary from our driver guides.
Coast and Rainforest Eco-Tour from Auckland with Picnic Lunch
This full day tour is for lovers of nature and hiking, your experienced local nature guide will take you to a range of rainforest, beach and clifftop hikes. The black sand beaches and rainforest of West Auckland are unique in New Zealand and this tour is a great way to experience the best it has to offer. (3 x 1hr short hikes) *HIGH LEVEL OF FITNESS REQUIRED. This tour is not suitable for people with any kind of mobility issues. The hikes involve stairs and gradient changes. please note areas visited will differ depending on weather & fitness levels of the clients on the day. *We are no longer unable to visit a waterfall due to track & road closures from cyclone damage.

Walk on the black sand, then take a guided walk through the rainforest to Karekare Falls, learning about New Zealand's native plants and animals. Visit a family-owned winery for a free tasting of five boutique wines, with the option to stay for lunch, or pick up a smaller snack from a local bakery (wine tasting included; lunch is your own cost). At the end of the tour, we can drop you off anywhere in the city, at the zoo or museum, or Mission Bay beach.
Drive up through the Henderson Valley for spectacular elevated views of the Waitakere Ranges from the Aratkai Visitors Centre. This protected regional reserve was originally used for extracting native timber in colonial days as Auckland was being settled in the 1860’s. We then visit the beautiful West Coast black sand surf beach settlement of Piha. Take walks on both North and South Piha beaches. Enjoy a 25 min stroll through the Rainforest. Take photos of ‘Lion Rock’ After a 50 minute drive through rain forest, taste wine and take an open menu one course lunch at Soljans Vineyard Restaurant. Established ion 1937, Soljans provide an innovative menu with a range of local fresh fish, steak, lamb, chicken, vegetarian and other dishes. In the afternoon we visit pictureque West Brook Winery where they have a unique portfolio of varietal whites and reds which you can enjoy overlooking the vineyard.
