Athens Highlights: Myths & Philosophers Walking Tour
Greece is the place where philosophy was born and thrived. Accompanied by a member of our team, you will journey through time in all the philosophical movements of ancient Greece and discover deep connections with our Myths and Gods of Olympus. Democracy, physics, astronomy, ethics and many other applied sciences stem from philosophy and, naturally, philosophers are considered the world’s first intellectuals. Through a 4 hour private walking tour you will learn every interesting fact about philosophers from Thales of Miletus to Socrates and Plato, and from Aristotle to the Cynic philosopher Diogenes of Sinope, whose famous answer towards Alexander the Great “Stand out of my sunlight”, when he was asked whether there was any favour he might do for him, is indicative of his character. You will get acquainted with the most important myths of the ancient greek world such as the story behind the birth of goddess Athena and everything around mischievous god Hermes.
Walk through the heart of Athens and into the world of ancient myth. This storytelling walking tour explores how Greek mythology shaped not only temples and statues, but also how we still think, feel, and live today. As we wander through the historic center — from neoclassical landmarks to shaded gardens and hidden churches — you'll hear stories of gods, heroes, and mortals whose choices still echo in our modern lives. We'll explore the meaning and purpose of myth, the eternal struggle between fate and freedom, and the timeless human emotions hidden behind ancient names. Through a mix of dramatic storytelling, reflections on modern life, and one fun interactive improv game, you'll step into the myths rather than just hear them. This tour is suitable for mythology lovers of all ages, including curious children, thoughtful teens, and imaginative adults. It’s designed to be accessible, engaging, and family-friendly, while still diving deep into the big questions behind the stories.
This self-guided GPS audio walk through Athens highlights some of its architectural gems. The majority of the buildings were constructed just after the creation of the Greek state in 1830. It was the king's attempt to transform Athens from a small village of a few thousands of people to a European capital. It's a city where modern chaos and history blend together perfectly, creating a unique and vibrant atmosphere. The tour starts at the fountain in the middle of Syntagma Square - this is the heart of modern-day Athens. Everything starts from here. The word Syntagma means "constitution" in Greek. The square got its name after a popular military uprising in 1843, when Greeks gathered here demanding that the country's first King, King Otto, follow his promise and introduce the country's first constitution - and the tour ends at the National Archaeological Museum, which you can visit after the tour.
