Istanbul's imperial core has stood at the center of two empires for over 1,600 years. This walk begins where the sultans themselves once entered — inside Topkapı Palace's outer courtyard, at the Imperial Gate — and moves through the old city not as a list of monuments, but as the story of the objects that outlasted every ruler who touched them: a column quarried in Egypt and re-erected by Rome, a church the Ottomans never converted, a stone that once marked the center of the known world.
Along the way you'll still meet the names you came for — Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Grand Bazaar — but seen through the eyes of someone who knows what's hiding in plain sight between them.

Hidden in Hagia Sophia's shadow, this 16th-century Ottoman medrese was designed by Mimar Sinan — a quiet start before the walk begins.
