Slave Caves
The shimoni slave caves, located in the coastal town of shimoni in southern Kenya, were once used as holding cell for enslaved people before they were transported across the Indian ocean to destination like Zanzibar and the Americas. The caves, carved into coral limestone, served as temporary quarters for captives awaiting shipment by Arab slave traders during the 19th century. Today, the caves stand as a historical sites, offering visitors a glimpse into the dark history of the east African slave trade.
