Cerro Santa Lucia
Located steps from the civic center of Santiago, Cerro Santa Lucía is a historical and cultural icon of the city and the Metropolitan Region. The Mapuches called it Huelén, a word that in Mapudungún means melancholy, sadness or pain. It is a hill of 69 m. high, covering 65,300 m2, originally it was a wild rock that was used as a viewpoint because from its top there was a panoramic view of the territory. After the arrival of the Spanish, Pedro de Valdivia renamed it Santa Lucía and founded the city of Santiago at its feet on February 12, 1541.
