For over five centuries, this stunning monastery has been home to Benedictine monks, continuing the traditions of hospitality and beer brewing that you can enjoy today. On the scenic train journey through the Bavarian countryside, you will learn about Andechs’ rich history, from its origins as a castle for the Counts of Andechs and their captivating story of rise, betrayal and downfall to its transformation in 1455 into a Benedictine monastery. The history and tradition plus the daily life of a monk in the monastery will also be explained. Afterward you can hike a medieval pilgrimage route with wonderful views of the countryside or take a bus if preferred and at the monastery, explore the stunning Baroque church, then relax in the beer hall or beer garden with a monk-brewed beer and locally sourced food.
