Ameshin Candy Art Asakusa is a rare specialty shop in Japan dedicated to traditional candy craftsmanship. Located near Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, the Hanakawado shop offers hands-on candy art workshops on an ongoing basis. Candy art is a traditional Japanese craft in which softened, heated sugar is shaped into beautiful forms using only the hands and a pair of scissors. In the shop’s festive, Japanese-style interior, visitors can receive careful guidance from skilled artisans. In addition to workshops, the shop also displays intricate candy artworks and sells a variety of candy products.

“Beginner Course: Rabbit” In this course, you will try making a rabbit-shaped candy artwork. A round piece of candy attached to a stick is shaped using your hands and traditional Japanese scissors. First, you will watch a video explaining important notes and how to make the rabbit (with English subtitles). After that, you will practice twice using training candy before creating your final piece. During the process, a craftsman will demonstrate the technique so you can better understand the details.
