Experience one of Interior Alaska’s most unforgettable wilderness routes on a small-group journey far from the Denali Park crowds and busier visitor routes. This is a chance to see a wilder, less-traveled Alaska rarely seen by most visitors.
Following the scenic Denali Highway, this tour completes a 450-mile loop through dramatic vehicle-accessible wilderness. The scenery changes from boreal forest and remote northern ranges to wild rivers, lakes, tundra, high-country mountain passes, distant glaciers and sweeping views toward the Alaska Range, the mountain system that includes Denali.

Itinerary
1
Fairbanks
Depart Fairbanks in the morning and head south into Alaska's Interior. As the city gives way to forest, rivers, and distant mountain ranges, your guide introduces the landscapes, history, and geography that will shape the day ahead.
2
George Parks Highway
Travel south along one of Alaska's most scenic highways, passing through broad river valleys and boreal forest on the approach to the Denali region.
3
Cantwell
Near Cantwell, stop at a local café where guests may purchase coffee, snacks, or lunch to enjoy later in the day before beginning the remote Denali Highway. This marks the transition from Alaska's highway system into one of the state's most scenic and lightly traveled roads.
20 minutes
4
Denali Highway
Spend the heart of the day exploring the legendary Denali Highway, one of Alaska's most scenic wilderness roads. Travel through sweeping tundra, glacial valleys, mountain passes, lakes, rivers, and vast stretches of undeveloped country far from the typical visitor route.
Throughout the day, make frequent scenic stops for photography, wildlife viewing opportunities, and short walks, including panoramic viewpoints overlooking the Alaska Range, glacial landscapes, and elevated tundra terrain. Depending on conditions, guests may also have opportunities to walk short distances along scenic ridges, eskers, and viewpoints to experience the landscape on foot.
Lunch is enjoyed in the Tangle Lakes area, surrounded by lakes, tundra, and mountain scenery before continuing east toward Paxson.

5
Paxson
At the eastern end of the Denali Highway, reconnect with the Richardson Highway and continue north through the Alaska Range foothills. The surrounding landscape transitions from open tundra and lakes to broad valleys shaped by glaciers and rivers.
6
Delta Junction
Brief stop for restrooms, refreshments, and supplies before continuing north toward Fairbanks. Depending on conditions, there may also be views of the eastern Alaska Range and surrounding Interior landscapes.
