Reiseplan
1
Nationalpalast von Sintra
Standing in the historical heart of Sintra, this is the best-preserved medieval royal residence in Portugal, being inhabited more or less continuously from at least the early 15th century to the late 19th century.
We will be able to see this Palace from the outside from different viewpoints along our ride.

Quinta Da Ribafria
One of my personal favorite places to escape the crowds in Sintra is Quinta da Ribafria—a quiet and lesser-known estate I return to often for its peaceful atmosphere and understated beauty.
Tucked away in the countryside, this 16th-century property offers a completely different perspective of Sintra. Instead of busy palaces, you’ll find open landscapes, elegant historic architecture, and subtle details that reveal the estate’s rich past.
It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and where a simple walk becomes something far more meaningful.
During our visit, we’ll take a relaxed stroll through the grounds, appreciating the views, the quiet, and the authenticity that makes this place so special.
t’s not about ticking off landmarks, but about experiencing Sintra in a more personal and refined way—just as locals do when they want to reconnect with its true character.

Gouveia, Sintra
Away in the Sintra countryside, the small village of Gouveia is one of those quiet places that reveals its charm slowly.
I like to pass through here when I want to show a more intimate and creative side of the region.
What makes Gouveia truly unique is its street signs—each one marked not just with a name, but with a poem.
As we drive through the village, you’ll notice verses woven into everyday corners, turning a simple drive into something unexpectedly thoughtful and reflective.
It’s a subtle but memorable town, far from the usual tourist routes, where you can experience a different rhythm of Sintra—one that blends local life with a touch of poetry.

Azenhas do Mar
One of the places I often return to along the Sintra coastline is Azenhas do Mar, a small seaside village that feels both timeless and quietly dramatic.
Perched on the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic, it’s one of those locations that never loses its impact, no matter how many times you visit.
The whitewashed houses cascade down toward the ocean, creating one of the most iconic views in the region—yet outside of peak moments, it can still feel peaceful and authentic.
When we stop here, I like to take it slowly. We can walk along the viewpoints, take in the coastal scenery, and, if you wish, pause for a coffee or a drink overlooking the sea. It’s not just about the view, but about experiencing the rhythm of the coastline in a more relaxed and personal way.
It’s a place I genuinely enjoy sharing—simple, beautiful, and a perfect contrast to the more visited landmarks of Sintra.
20 Minuten
5
Macas-Strand
We’ll also make a brief stop at Praia das Maçãs, a relaxed seaside spot that locals often enjoy for its laid-back atmosphere and ocean views.
It’s a simple but pleasant pause along the coast—just enough time to take in the scenery, feel the Atlantic breeze, and experience a more everyday side of life in the region before continuing our journey.

6
Regionales Weingut Colares
We’ll pass through the charming village of Colares, a place deeply connected to one of Portugal’s most unique wine traditions. Surrounded by vineyards growing in sandy soils near the ocean, this small region produces distinctive wines unlike anywhere else in the country.
If you’d like, we can stop at the local cooperative, Adega Regional de Colares, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn about this rare wine heritage and enjoy a relaxed tasting. (Closed on Sundays)
It’s a quiet and authentic glimpse into the region’s culture—something many visitors pass by without ever discovering.

7
Cabo da Roca
One of the most powerful places along the Sintra coastline is Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe. I always enjoy returning here, not just for the views, but for the feeling the landscape creates—raw, open, and shaped entirely by the Atlantic.
Standing on the cliffs, you can take in the vastness of the ocean and the dramatic meeting point between land and sea.
It’s a place that invites you to slow down, breathe in the salty air, and simply take in the scale of the surroundings. Despite its fame, there are always quieter moments to be found if we take our time.
Rather than rushing through, I like to pause here and let the setting speak for itself. It’s one of those locations that leaves a lasting impression, not because of what you do, but because of how it makes you feel.

Peninha-Schutzgebiet
Tucked high in the Sintra hills, Santuário da Peninha is one of those places that even many locals don’t visit often, yet it offers some of the most breathtaking views in the entire region.
I like to come here for the sense of space and quiet. From the top, you can see across the Sintra mountains, the coastline, and, on clear days, all the way to the Atlantic horizon. The small sanctuary itself adds a unique character to the setting, blending history, legend, and landscape.
It’s a peaceful stop, away from the more visited palaces, where we can take a moment to appreciate the natural beauty of Sintra from a completely different perspective.

Blaue Lagune
Not far from the main road, but often overlooked, Lagoa Azul is a quiet and scenic spot that I like to include when there’s time to slow the pace a little.
Surrounded by forest, this small lake offers a completely different atmosphere compared to the dramatic coastline. It’s calm, green, and understated—perfect for a short walk or simply a pause to take in the surroundings.
For me, it’s one of those places that adds balance to the day, showing a softer, more tranquil side of Sintra that many visitors never get to experience.

Sapa-Käsekuchen
Your experience ends next to the historic center of Sintra, just steps away from the traditional teahouse Queijadas da Sapa.
This charming local institution has been producing Sintra’s most famous pastry since the 18th century.
Finishing the tour here gives you the perfect opportunity to taste the iconic Queijada de Sintra, a delicate sweet made with fresh cheese, sugar, eggs, flour, and cinnamon.
At Queijadas da Sapa, these pastries are still prepared following the original recipe passed down through generations.
If you wish, you can step inside after the tour to enjoy this authentic local treat and experience one of Sintra’s most beloved culinary traditions.
