Plaza De Los Ponchos Mercado
The Plaza de los Ponchos has been a coexistence space in Otavalo since 1870.
The inhabitants have preserved for hundreds of years their practices in the production of textiles and crafts, inherited from previous generations. It is one of the largest open-air fairs in South America, bringing together thousands of artisans who mostly belong to the Kichwa ethnic group. Its greatest importance is on Saturdays, due to the influx of local, regional, national and international visitors who, in addition to purchasing products for sale, appreciate the indigenous clothing of elegantly dressed women, with embroidered blouses and anacos.
