Stand before the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the oldest stone monument on earth, with hardly another tourist in sight. This private day tour trades the Giza crowds for three quieter wonders, each brought to life by your own licensed Egyptologist.
At Saqqara, you'll trace where pyramid-building began. In Memphis, the fallen colossus of Ramses II and the great alabaster sphinx mark Egypt's first capital. At Dahshur, you can walk up and touch the Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramid of Sneferu, the experiments that made Giza possible. The 4,600-year-old stones are right there under your hand.

Itinerary
1
Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids
You arrive at Saqqara, home to the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the oldest stone pyramid on earth. Far quieter than Giza, this vast necropolis lets you explore at your own pace. You walk among tombs decorated with remarkably preserved hieroglyphs and step down into burial chambers that have stood for over 4,000 years. Your private Egyptologist brings the stones to life, explaining how pyramid-building began here and what the carvings really mean.
1 hour and 40 minutes
2
Memphis and Sakkara
You continue to Memphis, the first capital of a unified Egypt, set among shady palm trees. Here you stand before the colossal fallen statue of Ramses II and the great alabaster sphinx, carved from a single block of stone. Your guide explains how this once-mighty city ran the politics, religion, and trade of the ancient world, and why so little of it remains above ground today.
45 minutes
3
Dahshur lake
Your last stop is Dahshur, where the crowds thin and the desert opens up. You walk right up to the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid of Sneferu and can place your hand on stones laid 4,600 years ago, something the Great Pyramid at Giza no longer allows. At the Red Pyramid you can climb down into the main burial chamber. With sweeping desert views and almost no one around, this is ancient Egypt at its quietest and most real.
