The Problem: The Nile was unpredictable; sometimes it flooded Egypt, and other times it dried it up with drought.
The Epic: In the 1960s, with unwavering Egyptian resolve, a granite mountain was carved into the middle of the river with Soviet assistance, and historic temples were relocated to save them from being submerged.
The Victory: In 1971, the dam was completed; it tamed the river, brought electricity to Egypt's homes, and protected the land from the treachery of nature forever.
