Wat Phra Sri Sanphet
Wat Phra Sri Sanphet was the most important royal temple in ancient Ayutthaya. It stood inside the royal palace grounds and was used for royal religious ceremonies.
The temple is famous for its three large chedis, which contain the ashes of members of the royal family. It once had a huge golden Buddha image, about 16 meters tall.
Much of the temple was destroyed during the Burmese invasion in 1767. Today, the three chedis remain one of Ayutthaya’s most iconic landmarks and a symbol of its royal past.

Historic City of Ayutthaya
Ayutthaya was the capital of the Kingdom of Siam for more than 400 years, from 1350 until 1767. During its golden age, it was one of Southeast Asia's most powerful and important trading cities. The city was filled with magnificent temples, palaces, and Buddhist monuments. In 1767, Ayutthaya was attacked and largely destroyed by the Burmese army. Today, its impressive ruins give us a glimpse into Thailand's rich history, and the Historic City of Ayutthaya has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991.

Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Lokayasutharam)
Next, visit Wat Lokayasutharam, also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. This historic temple is famous for its enormous reclining Buddha statue, which lies outdoors among the ancient ruins of Ayutthaya. The Buddha is about 37 meters long and 8 meters high, making it one of the most impressive sights in the area. The statue represents the Buddha in a peaceful resting position and is an important symbol of Buddhist tradition. Your guide will share the history of the temple and explain the meaning of the reclining Buddha. Take some time to admire this impressive statue, explore the surrounding ruins, and take photos.
