Itinerary
1
Hammersmith Farm
Known as the “Summer White House” during the Kennedy administration, this elegant estate served as a seasonal retreat for President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline “Jackie” Kennedy. Originally the home of Jackie’s stepfather, Hugh D. Auchincloss, the property was where Jackie spent much of her childhood, enjoying summers by the water in a private and serene setting. The estate later became a cherished gathering place for the Kennedy family, blending personal memories with moments of national significance. With its expansive grounds and coastal views, this historic home reflects both the relaxed lifestyle of Jackie’s early years and its later role as an informal presidential retreat.
2
Fort Adams State Park
Fort Adams is one of Newport’s most historic landmarks, originally established in 1799 as part of the nation’s early coastal defense system. The impressive stone fort you see today was later rebuilt and expanded between 1824 and 1857, becoming one of the most complex fortifications in North America. Today, the site is preserved as Fort Adams State Park, which is open to the public and offers stunning views of Narragansett Bay along with access to historic tours and outdoor spaces. Beyond its military history, the park is also a vibrant cultural venue, serving as the home of the world-renowned Newport Jazz Festival and Newport Folk Festival held here every summer.
3
Castle Hill Lighthouse
Castle Hill Lighthouse, completed in 1890, stands proudly at the entrance to the East Passage of Narragansett Bay, guiding vessels safely into Newport Harbor.
Built from durable granite in a classic Romanesque architectural style, this historic beacon is easily recognized by its sturdy design and picturesque coastal setting.
Today, it remains one of Newport’s most iconic landmarks—offering stunning ocean views and a timeless connection to the region’s maritime heritage.
