Buxtehude was first mentioned in 959 and is surrounded by a moat. In the old town is the small Hanseatic port, where the restored sailing ship Margareta welcomes visitors. There are many historical buildings: the old mill, the old town hall, the Stavenort and the imposing Marschtorzwinger, part of the old city wall.

Jork is located on the river Elbe and is also called the "heart of the Altes Land" because Jork is surrounded by fruit plantations, the largest contiguous fruit growing area in Germany, a cultural landscape that is beautiful in every season.
