Enjoy exclusive, private access to a Kyoto City-designated Important Cultural Machiya, complete with an authentic tea room and tranquil tea garden. Over the course of approximately one hour, you can explore this historic space at your own pace with our self-guided audio tour.

The interior is filled with hands-on exhibits, allowing you to handle traditional tea utensils and practice Ikebana floral arrangements in various vases.

As an optional experience, you can also learn the authentic art of whisking and serving matcha directly from a tea ceremony master.

Itinerary

This experience takes place at Shizuhamo (Seasonal Harmony), a traditional Machiya dedicated to tea ceremony and ikebana culture. Take the Keihan Main Line from Fushimi-Inari Station (Platform 2) on any train except the Express. After a 5-minute ride, get off at Sumizome Station and enjoy a short 5-minute walk to reach Shizuhamo.

Stepping through the gate, you will feel as if you have been transported 100 years into the past. The traditional Japanese rooms are filled with items that evoke a time before electricity, gas, and running water, such as authentic paper lanterns (andon), charcoal fires, and water jars.
