First held in 1984, the Kashima Gatalympic is a one-of-a-kind muddy event unlike any other in the world.
It takes place on the vast tidal flats of the Ariake Sea, which has Japan’s largest tidal range of up to 6 meters.
After the opening ceremony, participants can watch a variety of exciting events and join the group competition “25m Freestyle Gata.”
