Depart Cusco at 4:00 AM for a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Ollantaytambo for breakfast, then board the train to Kilometer 104, the start of the Short Inca Trail. Hike 11 km (6.8 miles) along original Inca stone paths through lush cloud forest. Visit the stunning ruins of Wiñay Wayna before enjoying a picnic with mountain views. Continue to Inti Punku (Sun Gate) for your first panoramic view of Machu Picchu. Descend to the upper terraces for iconic photos, then take the shuttle bus to Aguas Calientes for hotel check-in and evening at leisure.
