Affectionately known as "Shimo Asama" and welcoming visitors with a white horse, this ancient and revered shrine is located in the heart of the Shimoyoshida area of Fujiyoshida City. Locals have long called it "Shimo Asama," and it has served as the center of faith and daily life for residents of the northern foothills of Mount Fuji for generations.
Founded in 807 AD, the shrine has a long and storied history. A notable feature is the "Yabusame (Archery on Horseback) Festival" held annually on September 18th and 19th. Unlike typical yabusame, which is meant to hone martial skills, this rare form of mounted archery uses the patterns of the horse's hoof prints to divine fortunes. It has become a major autumn tradition in the area, attracting many spectators.
Additionally, along the shrine’s approach, one of the cherry trees has a "heart-shaped burl," regarded as a sacred tree for bringing about romantic connections, making it a popular spot for those seeking love and good fortune.

Photographers and tourists from around the world flock here to enjoy this vista. Parc Ōishi
In summer, the lavender blooming in Oishi Park at the northern tip of Lake Kawaguchi spreads like a purple carpet, beautifully complemented by the view of Mount Fuji in the distance. In autumn, the park’s Kochia (summer cypress) bushes turn a deep, vibrant red, their fluffy, rounded shapes adding to their charm. This park also serves as the venue for the Lake Kawaguchi Herb Festival. (Lavender: June–July; Begonias and Cosmos: July–September; Kochia: October)
