Itinerary
1
Place Bou Jeloud
After a warm welcome and introduction from your expert local guide, you’ll set off to explore Fes’ narrow alleys, vibrant souks, and historic landmarks that make the city truly unforgettable.
15 minutes
2
Al-Attarine Madrasa
Our first stop is the Al Attarine Madrasa, built in the early 14th century under Sultan Abu Sa’id of the Marinid dynasty. Once a prestigious Quranic school, it remains a symbol of Fes’ intellectual and spiritual heritage, with intricate zellij tilework, carved cedarwood, and marble columns showcasing the pinnacle of Marinid artistry.
30 minutes
3
Mosque and University Kairaouine
Next, we visit the Al-Karaouine Mosque and University, founded in 859 by Fatima al-Fihri. One of the world’s oldest universities, its monumental doors and green-tiled rooftops reflect Fes’ rich scholarly and spiritual legacy. Non-Muslims can admire its stunning exterior.
20 minutes
4
Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts & Crafts
We continue to the Museum of Wooden Arts & Crafts, housed in a restored caravanserai. Here, you’ll see masterful examples of wood carving, marquetry, and antique furniture that highlight Morocco’s long-standing craftsmanship traditions.
20 minutes
5
Chouara Tannery
At the Chouara Tannery, witness the vibrant dyeing pits where leather has been crafted since the 11th century. From a panoramic terrace, watch artisans hand-dye hides using natural pigments like saffron and indigo—a tradition preserved through generations.
20 minutes
6
Medina of Fez
Next, explore two of Medina’s most distinctive souks: Souk Sabaghine, famous for handwoven textiles, and Souk El Attarine, brimming with spices, perfumes, and herbal remedies. Nearby, hear the rhythmic hammering at Hammam Seffarine, where coppersmiths continue centuries-old metalworking traditions.
45 minutes
7
Fes el-Bali
Finally, visit a pottery and zellij tile workshop, where artisans mold clay, hand-paint ceramics, and cut intricate tiles to create mosaics that adorn palaces, fountains, and mosques across Morocco.
20 minutes
8
Bab Boujloud
As the tour concludes, you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for Fes—a city where history, craftsmanship, and culture are alive in every street, souk, and detail.
