Edinburgh Photography & History Tour with Professional Tuition
About
I have a deep and thorough knowledge of the city, both historic and from a visual, photographic perspective. I know the best places to go for brilliant photos and I will tell stories about these places as we travel. We will discuss your personal preferences for our itinerary beforehand, and tailor your tour to suit.
The weather and the season will influence where I suggest to take you whether you want sunset scenes, people shots, or architectural detail. We can climb crags in the dark, poke our heads into cobwebbed tombs or gaze out over Autumn splendour.
I know how to get unique and atmospheric views of Edinburgh and I will show you how to take images that you will love showing your frien...

Itinerary
1
Edinburgh Castle
We will storm the castle (after q'ing politely) & visit all of the key areas and buildings within the castle walls. These will include the Great Hall, the Scottish National War Memorial, One O'Clock Gun, and St Margaret's Chapel.
Tour Guides are NOT allowed by the castle authorities to escort their guests inside any buildings, so instead I will give a thorough briefing for each place and meet you back outside.
We will of course take advantage of the fantastic views we will have over the city and compose beautiful images of Edinburgh from this lofty historic perch.
Important Note: This is one of several options for attractions on your tour, and we won't be able to include ALL options listed. Instead we will discuss which attractions you want to visit and mould the tour of your choosing. The time taken may be much longer than in this attraction description.

2
Royal Mile
The Royal Mile is the spine of the Old Town and we will peer down closes (alleys) tell stories of our city's history and visit important buildings like St Giles Cathedral and the Tron Kirk. Opportunities for capturing images will have your creative juices overflowing.
We can decide whether to walk the whole mile-long route or divert to the Grassmarket and Grefriars Kirkyard.

Grassmarket
Grassmarket & Greyfriars
The Grassmarket is crammed with historic buildings, inspiring perspectives and the ghosts of a tumultuous history. At one end is the colourfully photogenic West Bow (known by Potter fans as Diagon Alley) and at the other we will take advantage of unique perspectives of the castle from The Vennel.
From here we can choose to visit the historic and atmospheric Greyfriars Kirkyard and hear about its famous and infamous occupants.

Calton Hill
This city centre viewpoint offers great vistas in all directions as well as historic monuments and buildings. It is the best sunset viewpoint in the city and would be where we could do sunset photography and after dark cityscapes. You can see several examples of the views in my images.
As it is further away from the other options for your bespoke tour you should allow for fewer options if this is going to be on your list.

Holyrood Abbey
We can walk down the lower half of the Royal Mile and see the Canongate, Canongate Kirk where the royals go to church when they visit, Bakehouse Close and many hidden and secret locations, ripe for capturing great images.
Holyrood Palace & Abbey is a ticketed attraction and you can choose to pay for tickets for entry if we choose to end our tour there.
