Al Shahaniya Racetrack
Remote-controlled, toddler-sized robot jockeys, clothed in colourful racing silks delight locals and tourists, as they ride the lanky mammals across the sandy track. Racing camels can run at speeds of up to 40 mph in short sprints and may continue at 30 mph for as long as an hour. The operator applies the whip antenna, commands the jockey to pull on the reins, and shouts encouragement to the camel via a built-in speaker.

Zekreet Fort Ruins
The crumbling ruins of Zekreet Fort appear to be ancient, but the site was built only 200 years ago, perhaps by the pirate leader, Raḥmah ibn Jābir al-Jalāhimah. It was used for just a decade or two. Visit Zekreet Fort to see how Qatar’s sun, sand, winds and occasional rains have reduced the structure to an outline of the former fortification. Walk around the fort’s typical square shape. Note its corner towers including three circular in shape and one square.

THIS BREATHTAKING SCULPTURE IN THE BROUQ NATURE RESERVE SPANS OVER A KILOMETRE AND COMPRISES FOUR STEEL PLATES, EACH OVER FOURTEEN METRES IN HEIGHT. TO GUARANTEE PERFECT ALIGNMENT, SERRA EXAMINED THE TOPOGRAPHY OF THE LAND AND BEAUTIFULLY ENHANCED THE VAST, DESOLATE SPACE IN THE HEART OF THE DESERT. THE RESULT IS SPECTACULAR AND ALTHOUGH MODERN, TIMELESS.
