Begin your tour at Marktplatz Weimar, the historic market square that has long served as the social and commercial centre of the city. Surrounded by colourful townhouses and traditional cafés, the square offers an excellent introduction to Weimar’s elegant atmosphere. Here, you will also see the impressive Neues Rathaus Weimar, the city’s Neo-Gothic Town Hall with its distinctive clock tower.

Continue to the magnificent Stadtkirche St. Peter und Paul, commonly known as Herder Church. This important Lutheran church is closely associated with philosopher and theologian Johann Gottfried Herder and is famous for housing a celebrated altarpiece created by Lucas Cranach the Elder and his son.

Walk through the historic centre to reach Goethe National Museum and Goethe House, where Germany’s most celebrated writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, lived for nearly fifty years.
