Our first destination is the remote area of Agios Ioannis, a secluded coastal location that perfectly captures the authentic character of southern Crete. On the way, we make a short and relaxing coffee stop at the traditional mountain village of Kapetaniana. Perched high on the slopes of the Asterousia range, Kapetaniana is known for its stone-built houses, panoramic Libyan Sea views, and its deep-rooted Cretan heritage. This brief pause offers guests the opportunity to experience genuine local atmosphere and enjoy the serenity of the mountains.

We then continue our adventure via an off-road dirt track, descending from approximately 800 meters above sea level toward the southern coastline. The route itself is a highlight, offering breathtaking views and a true sense of exploration. Upon reaching the coast, we set out on a scenic hike of approximately 25–30 minutes to the famous Agadiko Beach, known for its crystal-clear waters and the striking shipwreck that rests along its shore. This hidden beach is one of the area’s most photogenic and rewarding locations. If our schedule allows, we enhance the experience with optional visits to the cave-style Church of Agios Antonios, a unique religious site built into the rock, as well as a stop at the region’s famous natural salt pans, where guests may observe — and even collect — sea salt formed through traditional natural processes.

Following our explorations, we return to the vehicle and begin the comfortable journey back to your accommodation, concluding a day rich in authentic landscapes, local culture, and memorable experiences in southern Crete. For guests who prefer not to participate in the hike, there is the option to enjoy a refreshing swim at the equally beautiful Elygia Beach. This stunning seaside location is easily accessible, allowing visitors to reach the shore almost immediately after stepping out of the comfort of the vehicle, while still experiencing the pristine waters and unspoiled charm of southern Crete.
