The road to the temple was laid alongside a canal once connected to the Nile. Lining the road used to be an amazing row of sphinxes having the head of a ram and the body of a lion, symbolic the God Amon. This used to go all the way down to the Luxor Temple. You can still see some of these Sphinxes lining the road.
