Batalha Monastery
Batalha Monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built in the 14th century Manueline and Gothic style to fulfill the promise that D. João I made to the Virgin after the victory over the Castilians in the battle of Aljubarrota in 1385. The exterior features several pinnacles. lobbies, railings, railings, and carved windows in flaming Gothic style; octagonal chapels and columns. Inside is a vaulted Gothic style and colorful stained glass. Also on this visit you will be able to see the Royal Cloister built by Afonso Domingues in a sober Gothic style but with Manueline style additions by Diogo de Boitaca, the darker Gothic Dom Afonso V Cloister, designed by maestro Fernão de Évora, the 15th-century Chapter Room, which contains a beautiful and colorful 16th-century stained glass. The construction of the huge dome was considered so dangerous that it was only done by death row inmates is one of the most surprising aspects of this historic journey.
