After the tasting, we’ll head to San Gimignano for a self-guided visit of this famous medieval village. You’ll have free time to explore the town, and the visit—including its magnificent towers—will take approximately an hour. San Gimignano is a small, walled medieval hill town not far from Siena, known as the “Town of Fine Towers.” In the Middle Ages, over 70 towers stood here, and today, it’s like an open-air museum, where walking through the streets feels like stepping back in time. The town is also famous for its saffron, “Golden Ham,” and Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a white wine made from the ancient Vernaccia grape that grows on the region’s sandstone hillsides.
