Itinerary
1
Cathedral of Cefalù
The Basilica of the Transfiguration or better known as the Cathedral of Cefalù is a monument that reflects the Arab-Norman influence on the island, it was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2015. An amazing building!
20 minutes
2
Mura Megalitiche
Due to its strategic position on the sea, Cefalù was exposed to attacks by pirates and looters for centuries, especially during the Middle Ages. Since the 5th century BC, the city has been protected by a solid megalithic wall, which embraced the entire Rocca, extending from one end of the gulf to the other. A "must-visit" when in Cefalù !
20 minutes
3
Bastione di Capo Marchiafava
The Bastione di Capo Marchiafava was built around the 17th century and marks the northern end of the city walls on the sea side of Cefalù. Its polygonal shape, with the tip jutting out towards the sea, recalls the bow of a ship, making it a privileged observation point. From this elevated position you can enjoy a spectacular view of the entire gulf.
10 minutes
4
Porta Pescara
In ancient times access to the town was exclusively through four gates, each of which was carefully guarded to ensure the safety of the inhabitants. Of these four gates, only one has survived over time and it is Porta Pescara, also known as Porta del Viceré. While the others were destroyed with the demolition of some sections of the walls. Let's discover it!
10 minutes
5
Lavatoio Medievale
The washhouse still visible today is the result of a series of works and restorations carried out over the centuries, although some sources attest that it already existed in the Middle Ages. Let's discover this amazing piece of art from the past!
10 minutes
6
Museo Mandralisca
The Mandralisca Museum in Cefalù presents a variety of collections, including archaeological finds, paintings, furniture and objects of great historical value. If you like art, you have to see this place!
7
Rocca di Cefalu
The Rocca di Cefalù is an imposing 268-meter hill that overlooks the city, offering a breathtaking view of the Sicilian coast. This historical and naturalistic site is characterized by ancient fortifications, such as the Temple of Diana from the 9th century BC and the remains of the Castle of Cefalù from the 13th century, which I will tell you about later.
