What sets this tour apart is the combination of Yorkshire’s dramatic coast, ruined abbeys, historic castles and Gothic stories in one private day from York.
Rather than joining a coach tour, you travel as your own private group of up to four guests, with hotel pickup, a local driver-guide and a route that can adapt to the day. We combine major sights such as Whitby and its famous abbey with scenic roads, historic towns, castles and viewpoints that are much harder to fit into a day using public transport.
The tour is designed to give you a real sense of Yorkshire rather than simply moving from attraction to attraction. There is time for the history, the landscape and the stories behind the ...

Cathédrale d'York
Begin in the shadow of York Minster, one of the great Gothic cathedrals of northern Europe and the perfect starting point for a journey through York and Yorkshire’s history.
From the outside, we’ll look at the Minster’s scale, architecture and place in the story of the city — from Roman York and medieval religion to saints, kings, pilgrims and the legends that still cling to the streets around it.
This is an exterior stop, so entry is not required. Guests can enjoy the views, take photos, and get a strong sense of why York Minster has dominated the city’s skyline for centuries.

Pickering Castle
Our route continues north to Pickering Castle, a striking ruined fortress with deep Norman roots and sweeping views over the surrounding town and countryside.
Once a royal castle, hunting lodge and defensive stronghold, Pickering helps tell the story of medieval power in Yorkshire — from conquest and control to the lives of those who lived and worked around the castle walls.
This is a scenic and historic stop, with time to view the castle from the outside and take photographs. Entry is optional and not required to enjoy the stop.

Whitby Abbey
Few places in Yorkshire feel as dramatic as Whitby Abbey. Set high above the town and coastline, the ruins are linked to saints, sailors, storms and the gothic imagination.
The abbey is famously associated with St Hild, early Christianity in Northumbria, and later with Bram Stoker’s Dracula, which helped make Whitby one of Britain’s most atmospheric coastal towns.
Guests can admire the abbey from the outside, take in the clifftop views, and hear the stories that make this one of the most memorable stops on the route. Entry is optional and not required.

Port de Whitby
After visiting the abbey area, enjoy time in Whitby itself — a historic harbour town known for its fishing heritage, narrow streets, sea views, jet jewellery and gothic connections.
There will be time to explore, take photographs, grab refreshments, or walk part of the old town depending on the pace of the day. Highlights may include the harbour, the 199 Steps, St Mary’s Church, the old streets below the abbey, and views across the coast.
This stop gives guests a chance to experience Whitby’s atmosphere properly, not just pass through it.

Scarborough Castle
The route continues along the Yorkshire coast to Scarborough Castle, a spectacular headland fortress overlooking the sea, harbour and town.
Scarborough’s castle has witnessed centuries of conflict, royal control, coastal defence and local legend. Its position alone makes it one of the most impressive viewpoints on the route, with dramatic views across both North and South Bay.
Entry is optional and not required. Guests can still enjoy excellent views, photographs and the historic setting from outside.

La tour de Clifford
Returning to York, the tour ends near Clifford’s Tower, one of the city’s most recognisable historic landmarks.
The tower stands on a raised mound above the city and connects York’s Norman, medieval and darker history. It is a powerful final stop, bringing the route back to York and tying together themes of castles, conflict, faith, power and memory.
This is an exterior stop. Entry is optional and not required.
