Galataport, home to the world’s first underground cruise terminal. This 1.2-kilometer waterfront was a closed port for decades, but today it has been transformed into a vibrant hub for dining, culture, and shopping. Right in the center, you can see the historic Tophane Clock Tower from the 19th century, and right next to it is the iconic Istanbul Modern Art Museum, designed by the world-renowned architect Renzo Piano. When cruise ships dock, a special hatch system lowers the terminal operation underground, keeping the coastline fully open for pedestrians to enjoy this beautiful view.

Galata Tower. Built in the 14th century by the Genoese as part of their fortification walls, it has served as a watchtower, prison, and observatory over the centuries. It is also famous for Hezarfen Ahmed Çelebi, a 17th-century Ottoman aviator who, according to legend, attached wooden wings to his body and successfully flew from the top of this tower all the way across the Bosphorus to the Asian side. Local romantic lore also says that if you climb to the top of the tower for the first time with someone, you are destined to marry them!

Dolmabahçe Palace, built in the 19th century by Sultan Abdülmecid. It served as the main administrative center of the late Ottoman Empire, shifting away from the traditional Topkapı Palace toward a more European-style architecture and lifestyle. Most importantly for us, it is where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the modern Republic of Turkey, spent his final days and passed away in 1938. With a stunning 600-meter waterfront facade, it offers one of the most memorable views along the Bosphorus at sunset.

Çırağan Palace, built in the 19th century by Sultan Abdülaziz entirely from fine marble. The name Çırağan comes from the Persian word for 'light', referring to the famous torchlit evening festivals held here during the Tulip Era. Tragically, a massive fire in 1910 destroyed the palace, leaving it as a ruin for decades until its meticulous restoration in the 1990s. Today, it operates as one of the most luxurious hotels in the world. Seeing the sunset light bounce off its white marble facade and lush gardens is one of the absolute best photo opportunities on the Bosphorus!

Ortaköy Mosque. Built in the 19th century by Sultan Abdülmecid, it was designed in the Neo-Baroque style by the famous Balyan family of Armenian architects, who also designed Dolmabahçe Palace. What makes this mosque so unique are its exceptionally tall and large windows. They flood the interior with natural light, making it feel as though the waters of the Bosphorus are reflecting right inside. Framed by the bridge behind it, this view is easily one of the most iconic postcard sights of Istanbul.

15th July Martyrs Bridge—originally known as the Bosphorus Bridge. Opened in 1973 on the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Republic, it was the very first suspension bridge to connect the continents of Europe and Asia. As we sail beneath it, we are officially crossing the boundary between two continents! Uniting Europe and Asia had been a dream for centuries in local history and literature. At sunset, as its lights begin to reflect on the water, passing under this engineering marvel is easily one of the highlights of the tour.

Bebek, one of the most affluent, historic, and vibrant neighborhoods along the Bosphorus. During the Ottoman era, it was a favorite summer retreat for royalty and high-ranking officials, lined with luxurious wooden mansions. The stunning historic building you see right on the waterfront is the Egyptian Consulate (Hıdiva Palace). Today, with its lively seaside cafes, upscale restaurants, and luxury yachts, Bebek remains the ultimate symbol of high-end social life in Istanbul.

Rumeli Fortress (Rumeli Hisarı). It was built in 1452 by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror in a record time of just four months, right before the conquest of Constantinople. Its purpose was to control maritime traffic and block any aid coming from the Black Sea to the Byzantine Empire. The fortress sits at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus Strait. A fascinating detail is its architectural design: when viewed from above, the layout of its towers and walls spells out the name 'Muhammad' in Arabic calligraphy. Today, it stands as one of the most powerful historic symbols along the strait.

Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge—also known as the Second Bosphorus Bridge—opened in 1988. It is named after Mehmed the Conqueror, the Ottoman Sultan who built the Rumeli Fortress nearby and conquered Constantinople in 1453. This exact spot marks the narrowest point of the Bosphorus Strait, measuring only about 700 meters across. The bridge serves as a vital arterial link, carrying international trade and transit traffic between Europe and Asia. Looking straight up as we sail beneath it really highlights the impressive scale of engineering connecting the two continents.

Anadolu Fortress (Anadolu Hisarı), also known as the Beautiful Fortress. It was built in 1395 by Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I. Standing at the narrowest section of the strait, it predates the opposite Rumeli Fortress by about 60 years and is the very first Ottoman architectural structure built along the Bosphorus. The fortress sits right where the Göksu Stream meets the Bosphorus. During the Ottoman period, this area was a famous romantic getaway where royalty and locals enjoyed boat rides and picnics. Surrounded by historic wooden mansions and green hills, it offers one of the most peaceful views on the Asian side.

Kuleli Military High School. Originally built in the 19th century under Sultan Abdülmecid as a cavalry barracks, it became one of the most prestigious military academies in Turkish history, educating generations of statesmen and officers. With its striking symmetrical architecture extending right along the waterfront, it is one of the most iconic postcard landmarks on the Asian side of the Bosphorus—especially as its lights begin to glow and reflect on the water during sunset.

Beylerbeyi Palace. Built in 1865 by Sultan Abdülaziz, it served as a summer residence for the Ottoman sultans and a prestigious guesthouse for visiting foreign heads of state. The palace has a fascinating secret inside: because Sultan Abdülaziz was deeply passionate about the sea, he personally sketched the naval motifs and woodwork on the ceilings. It also features a large indoor pool in the central hall to keep the interior cool during hot summer days. Over the years, famous world figures like Empress Eugénie of France and King Edward VIII of the UK were hosted in this grand seaside palace.

Küçüksu Pavilion (Küçüksu Kasrı). Built in 1856 by Sultan Abdülmecid, it served as a summer hunting lodge and a short-stay retreat for Ottoman sultans. Designed by the famous Balyan family of architects, its most unique feature is that it was created purely for day trips and official receptions, so it contains no bedrooms at all. With its elaborate marble carvings, lace-like facade, and ornate iron gates facing the sea, it is one of the most elegant palace pavilions along the Bosphorus.

Maiden’s Tower (Kız Kulesi). With a history spanning nearly 2,500 years, it has served as a customs station, a lighthouse, a quarantine hospital, and a watchtower throughout the centuries. The most famous legend tells of a king who received a prophecy that his beloved daughter would die from a snakebite. To protect her, he built this tower in the middle of the sea. However, on her birthday, a hidden snake inside a basket of fruit bit the princess, fulfilling the tragic prophecy. Framed by the silhouette of the Historic Peninsula behind it at sunset, the Maiden’s Tower is undoubtedly the most romantic symbol of Istanbul.
