Step into a 100-year-old family home and experience Sri Lankan batik as a living family tradition. At Samara Batiks, our 50-year heritage comes from the late grandfather, renowned Sri Lankan artist A.J. Ranasinghe, who exhibited his work internationally throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Your workshop is guided by the family’s master artisan, G.P. Ranasinghe, and is exclusively reserved for you for the entire day. We host only one workshop each day, giving you the freedom to take your time, stay as long as you wish, and fully immerse yourself in the heritage, stories and creative process—without being rushed.

Step into the century old family home and discover 50 years of Sri Lankan batik heritage while enjoying a welcome drink in a relaxed creative atmosphere. You'll meet the master artisan, hear the family story, learn the history of batik, sketch your design, apply traditional wax, dye your fabric and create your own unique batik artwork to take home. Also, the guests have the option to share a traditional Sri Lankan meal with the family for an additional cost.
