Foothills County
As you leave the sanctuary, the landscape opens into rolling hills and wide‑open ranchlands, with the Rockies slowly rising ahead like a promise. This stretch is also known for its incredible wild horse sightings — small bands grazing freely against the backdrop of the foothills, a scene that feels almost cinematic.
Continuing west, the road winds past the community of Tsu Tina, where the prairies begin to tighten and the mountains draw closer. The scenery shifts subtly — more pines, more rugged cliffs, more of that unmistakable feeling that you’re entering the Rockies proper.
From time to time, it’s also possible to spot Rocky Mountain sheep, elk, and even the occasional bear wandering near the treeline. Before long, you’ll skirt the shores of Ghost Lake, where the water often mirrors the sky and the wind ripples across the surface in long silver streaks.
It’s a peaceful, photogenic moment that makes you instinctively reach for your camera.
