Meet in Addis Ababa in the morning and drive 230 km northeast to Awash National Park, located in the Ethiopian Great Rift Valley. The scenic drive takes you past volcanic mountains and expansive lava fields, with dramatic valleys along the way. Stop at Beseka Lake, a haven for birdwatching, where you can spot pink-backed pelicans, African fish eagles, saddle-billed storks, and more. Observe the nomadic Kereyu tribe as they bring their camels to the water. In the afternoon, continue to Awash National Park for an optional evening game drive and a visit to the spectacular Awash Falls. Wildlife sightings may include beisa oryx, baboons, greater and lesser kudu, warthogs, gazelles, and colobus monkeys. If you're fortunate, you might even spot big cats.
