Bhoodan Pochampally
Pochampally is a town and weaving cluster in Telangana, India, famous for its hand-woven Pochampally Ikat sarees and other textiles, which use a traditional resist-dyeing technique to create intricate, geometric patterns. Known as the "Silk City of India," the craft is a significant cottage industry, with many families in the region dedicated to the production of these lightweight, lightweight, lightweight silk and cotton fabrics. The textiles are often marketed by cooperative societies and master weavers, and the Pochampally saree has its own Geographical Indication (GI) tag, signifying its unique origin and craftsmanship.
Ikat Weaving: The defining feature is the "Ikat" method, where threads are tie-dyed before weaving to form designs on both the warp (lengthwise) and weft (crosswise) threads.
Geographical Indication (GI) Tag: The Pochampally saree was granted a GI tag in 2004, recognizing its distinct characteristics and origin.
