The Outa el Hammam square is the historical and touristic centre of Chefchaouen with its Grand Mosque and minaret and its pavement cafes and restaurants. It’s an area of entertainment and interest. Located downtown, the Outa el Hammam square stands out as one of the most-visited sites and is considered a must-see by tourists who are drawn to the beauty and importance of the historical monuments surrounding this area. Once this square was a training ground for riders and fighters for different martial arts. Outa el Hammam is the oldest of the city's squares and is now well known for the mix of its rich history and its present-day life with shops and cultural activities.

The medina of Chefchaouen The picturesque Medina, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Rif Mountains, is filled with white-washed homes with distinctive, powder-blue accents, and the call to prayer rings out of several mosques around the town in chorus. It can be said that the spring of Ras el Maa is the cornerstone that led to the construction of the town of Chefchaouen. This spring was and still is the only source of drinking water for the town. In the past, it was the source of energy for the water mills that dotted the two banks of the stream. It also had the merit of irrigating the farms that extended along its flow. Currently, this spring is managed by the National Office of Drinking Water (ONEP), and it has become a tourist attraction for visitors to the town of Chefchaouen.
