Welcome to White Oak Flats Cemetery, one of Gatlinburg’s oldest and most sacred resting places. Even from outside its gates, you can feel the shift in the air—time seems to slow, and the modern world slips quietly out of focus. While our tour will not be entering the cemetery, we’ll pause here to share the history that shapes this quiet, storied corner of Gatlinburg.

This small, unassuming structure behind me is the Martha Jane Ogle Cabin—the very first permanent home ever built in what would one day become Gatlinburg. It’s simple and modest, without grandeur or ornament, yet it stands on ground that feels almost sacred. For this town, this little cabin is where everything began.
