Most Santos Populares tours are tuk-tuk tours they drive past the festival. This one walks you into it. For five hours, on foot, you move through three of Lisbon's most iconic neighbourhoods: Alfama at sunset, Graça at golden hour, Bica at peak arraial energy. You taste sardinhas assadas at Largo de São Miguel, bifanas at the legendary Vila Berta street party, and caldo verde at the Bica funicular just as the city's lights come on. Your guide isn't reading from a script they're a Lisboeta who grew up dancing at these arraiais. We start when the festival opens and end when it's loudest. On Saint Anthony's Eve (June 12), a separate two-departure edition includes guide-secured viewing of the Ma...

Rossio Square
The guide will be positioned by the fountain at Rossio Square after initial contact with the guests.
Meet your local guide at the North Fountain of Praça do Rossio Lisbon's central square and the city's beating heart since the 13th century. You'll receive a printed festival map and your manjerico the small basil plant with a love poem pinned to it that every Lisboeta carries during Santos Populares. The guide gives you a short briefing on the next five hours: the three neighbourhoods you'll walk through, the food you'll taste, the story of Saint Anthony and why this festival is the one no Lisboeta would ever miss.

Церковь Святого Антония
Walk east into the older parts of the city to the Igreja de Santo António, built directly over the house where Saint Anthony was born in 1195. Stand on the steps where every June 12, the Casamentos de Santo António take place the mass weddings of dozens of Lisbon couples who marry in front of the city's patron saint, broadcast live on national television. Next door, the imposing Sé Cathedral (1147), Lisbon's oldest church, marks the gateway into Alfama. Your guide explains why Saint Anthony is also the patron saint of lovers, marriage, and lost things and why basil plants and love poems have everything to do with him.

Алфама
You enter Alfama the labyrinth of tiled lanes and stone staircases that survived the 1755 earthquake and looks the way Lisbon looked 500 years ago. Every doorway is dressed in colored streamers, paper lanterns hang between balconies, and the smoke from charcoal grills rolls down the cobblestones. You arrive at Largo de São Miguel, the historic heart of Alfama's Santos Populares arraial.
Here you have your first tasting: sardinhas assadas (charcoal-grilled sardines) served on broa de milho (Portuguese corn bread) the traditional way, accompanied by a shot of ginjinha the cherry liqueur that defines Lisbon's June nights. You eat standing among Lisboetas, the music spills from open windows, and the festival becomes something you're participating in rather than watching.

Смотровая площадка Портас-ду-Сол
The view everyone in Lisbon has photographed at least once red roofs tumbling down toward the Tagus. During the festival it’s packed, but it’s worth a few minutes if we can get to the railing.

Смотровая площадка Граса (София де Мелло Брейнер Андресен)
A few minutes' walk from Senhora do Monte brings you to Arraial da Vila Berta a private street that the residents of Graça have decorated for Santos Populares every single June since 1916. Vila Berta is regarded by photographers as one of the most photogenic festival sites in Europe: every inch overhead is strung with colored bulbs, hand-painted lanterns, and decorations the neighbours hang and renew themselves each year.
Here you have your second tasting: a bifana (marinated pork sandwich, a Portuguese street food classic) and a cold draught Sagres beer, eaten standing among the locals as pimba music plays from speakers strung overhead and couples dance in the middle of the street. Your guide shares the rivalry between Lisbon's neighbourhoods that drives the Marchas Populares competition, and points out details in the year's decorations the 2026 theme is Somos Lisboa, Somos Europa (We are Lisbon, We are Europe), a tribute to the Treaty of Lisbon.

Фуникулер Бика
A relaxed 35-minute walk takes you back down through Baixa Pombalina (the downtown grid rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake now lit up at night) and west to Largo do Calhariz, at the top of the Bica funicular street. Here you get the iconic shot of Lisbon: the yellow Ascensor da Bica descending a tile-lined cobblestone street toward the river Tagus glowing in the distance. This is one of the most-photographed views in the entire city.
You then descend on foot into the Bica arraial along Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo — and at this hour (around 21:00) it is the most electric arraial of the night. Bica is the late party: louder, denser, more local than anywhere else we've been. Your third tasting here is caldo verde (Portugal's iconic kale and chouriço soup) or grilled chouriço sausage, accompanied by one final ginjinha. The remaining time is yours to dance, to photograph, to ask the guide questions, or simply to stand and take in what 600 years of festival tradition looks like in 2026.
