Hoi An is an ancient town located along the lower Thu Bon River in Quang Nam Province, about 30 kilometers south of Da Nang. Between the 17th and 18th centuries, it was a thriving international trading port where merchants from Japan, China, and the West converged. Even earlier, Hoi An served as a Champa port along the ancient maritime Silk Road. Today, Hoi An Ancient Town is a beautifully preserved example of a traditional Southeast Asian port city. Its narrow streets are lined with historic houses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries, showcasing a unique blend of Chinese, Japanese, and French architectural influences. The town also retains a rich and vibrant cultural heritage. UNESCO recognized Hoi An Ancient Town as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1999.
