Kyichu Lhakhang
Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples, dates back to the 7th century. It was among 108 temples built in a single day by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo to subdue a demoness and spread Buddhism across the Himalayas. Known as the “Sacred Jewel of Bhutan,” it was later blessed by Guru Padmasambhava, who is believed to have hidden sacred treasures here.
Visitors can stroll the serene grounds, observe pilgrims circumambulating the temple while spinning prayer wheels, and soak in a tranquil atmosphere ideal for reflection. Inside, admire ancient wall paintings, sacred relics, the revered 7th-century statue of Jowo Jamba, and the magnificent thousand-armed Chenrezig. With its gold-coated entrance, gem-inlaid wooden floors, and centuries-worn prostration marks, the temple reflects deep devotion and history.
Kyichu Lhakhang offers travelers a rich cultural, spiritual, and historical experience, perfect for photography, learning, and quiet contemplation.
