Day 1: Northern Cluster of Churches
Arrive in Lalibela (usually by morning flight from Addis Ababa or Gondar).
After lunch, begin exploring the northwestern cluster of churches:
Bete Medhane Alem (the largest rock-hewn church in the world)
Bete Maryam (famous for its interior paintings)
Bete Golgotha & Mikael (of great spiritual and historical importance)
Other nearby interconnected churches
These churches are carved from solid rock and connected by tunnels and trenches, often referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.”
Activities:
Walk through narrow passages symbolizing heaven and hell
