Izumo Taisha is one of Japan’s oldest and most significant Shinto shrines, located in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture. Dedicated to Ōkuninushi, a major deity in Japanese mythology, it is traditionally associated with en-musubi, the formation of connections between people, communities, and events.
Visitors approach the shrine through a carefully designed sequence that leads gradually from the everyday world into sacred space. Purification rituals, forest paths, and symbolic boundaries emphasize humility and preparation before prayer.
