Portovenere is a charming fishing village located at the western end of the Gulf of La Spezia, also known as the "Gulf of Poets". Together with the nearby islands Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 for its inestimable landscape and cultural value. The village is famous for its iconic Palazzata a Mare, a long row of colorful tower-houses, tall and narrow, leaning against each other, overlooking the marina. On top of the promontory dominates the majestic Castello Doria, an ancient Genoese fortress. At the base of the promontory is the suggestive Church of San Pietro, built overlooking the sea in Genoese Gothic style. Just below the church is the famous Byron Cave, a natural cavity named after the Romantic poet Lord Byron. It is the second village of the Cinque Terre and is famous all over the world for its unmistakable panorama and its wine tradition. The most photographed point of Manarola is the Via Belvedere or Punta Bonfiglio, which offers a breathtaking view of the entire village clinging to the cliff. Manarola is historically the heart of the production of the renowned Sciacchetrà passito wine and its steep terraces cultivated with vineyards dominate the surrounding landscape. On the hill that embraces the village, every year from December 8, the suggestive Luminous Nativity of Manarola is set up, the largest of its kind in the world, made with hundreds of bright figures. Manarola is an architectural gem that celebrates the fusion between man's fatigue on terraces and the dramatic beauty of the Ligurian coast.

It is one of the most iconic and photographed villages of the Cinque Terre, famous for its authentic maritime atmosphere and its imposing historical fortification. It is the only village to boast a real natural harbor. All the steep streets and alleys of the village descend and converge towards the one, beautiful central square overlooking the sea. The village is dominated DA two important defensive structures of the Genoese era: Castello Doria, a fortress that stands on the rocky promontory and offers a spectacular panoramic view of the coast and the town. The evocative Church of Santa Margherita d'Antiochia, recognizable for its Ligurian Gothic style and the unusual 40-meter high bell tower, built directly on the rocks overlooking the water. The colorful houses, tall and narrow, develop vertically between the rocky outcrop and the sea, surrounded by terraces planted with olive trees and vineyards that have made the landscape of the area famous.
