Follow the west coast until you reach Ribeira Brava, and the Encumeadas viewpoint, at 1007 meters. Admire the wonderful landscapes both on the coast and on the island. Proceeding, you will cross the plateau of Paúl da Serra, the largest plateau on the island of Madeira. Stop for a snack in Porto Moniz, a famous spot in the north of the island, known for its natural pools. Driving towards São Vicente, you will enjoy the small waterfalls, passing through Seixal, along the way. End of the day with a visit to São Vicente. Return to the Hotel.

Walk between Madeira´s highest peaks! Starting at Pico do Areeiro, within a short distance we come upon the Ninho da Manta (Buzzard’s Nest) belvedere. From this platform one can see the valley of Fajã da Nogueira, where some Manx shearwater (Puffinus puffinnus) breed, São Roque do Faial and a large part of the Central Mountain Range. To reach Pico Ruivo at 1862m, we must go around Pico das Torres up a steep incline of steps carved in the rock and then descend, the most difficult part of this trail being the final climb to the Shelter at Pico Ruivo. But the thought of reaching the highest point of the island is a driving force. From the Pico Ruivo shelter, the footpath leads to Achada do Teixeira car park, where you can see “Homem em pé” (Standing Man), a basalt rock formation found on the way down the slope after you pass the shelter at Achada do Teixeira.

We start with the pick-up at your accommodation, following towards Pico do Areeiro, where we will have the opportunity to watch the sun rise over the mountains of Madeira, if the weather allows. Then we begin the walk along one of the island’s most iconic trails, crossing deep valleys, sharp peaks and the imposing central mountainous massive, always accompanied by stunning views. Along the way, the island’s fauna, endemic flora and history will always be present, making this experience even richer and more authentic. The great goal will be to reach the peak of Pico Ruivo, the highest point of Madeira, a conquest rewarded by absolutely unique panoramas. Go down to the Achada do Teixeira and then return to the hotel.
