Château maure
Castelo dos Mouros is one of the most impressive medieval fortresses in Portugal, built between the 8th and 9th centuries during the Muslim occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. Situated on the top of the Serra de Sintra, it played a strategic role in defending the region until the Christian conquest by D. Afonso Henriques, in 1147.
Walk through the ancient stone walls, climb to the watch towers and discover how this castle dominated the surrounding landscape. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of the Pena Palace, the Villa de Sintra, the mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. The Guide will share stories about the Moor occupation, the Reconquest and the legends that marked this place over the centuries.
The visit begins early, allowing you to explore the monument with greater tranquility, take advantage of the morning light for unforgettable photographs and live a more authentic experience, before the arrival of most visitors.

During the journey, discover quiet corners and panoramic spots that reveal privileged views of the Palacio Nacional da Pena, considered one of the greatest icons of Romanticism in Portugal. The Guide will share the history of the park’s creation by King D. Fernando II, explaining how he transformed the mountain into a landscape inspired by 19th-century Romantic European gardens.
This visit privileges nature, history and the unique landscapes of the park, providing a relaxing and authentic experience, without the need to enter the interior of the palace.
