Salle provinciale de Battambang
Battambang Provincial Hall/Governor's Residence is a magnificent heritage building located in the heart of Battambang City along the west bank of the Sangkae River. Originally commissioned in 1905 by the final Thai governor of the region, Lord Katathon Chhum, it was designed by Italian architects from Bangkok in a grand European villa style. However, following the 1907 Franco-Siamese Treaty that returned Battambang to Cambodia, the governor sold the property to the French before ever living in it. It then served as the office and residence for high-ranking French officials, was briefly used for food storage by the Khmer Rouge, and functioned as the provincial administrative headquarters until 2005. Today, it operates as the Battambang Heritage Museum.
