Grand Canal
The Grand Canal is the main waterway of Venice, Italy, winding through the city in a path of about 3.8 km. This majestic canal, shaped like an inverted S, is lined with more than 170 historic buildings, many of which date from the 13th to the 18th centuries. The palaces and churches along the Grand Canal showcase a mix of architectural styles, including Byzantine, Gothic, and Renaissance, reflecting the wealth and history of Venice as a center of trade and culture.
The Grand Canal is crossed by four main bridges: the Rialto Bridge, the Academy Bridge, the Scalzi Bridge, and the modern Constitution Bridge. Each of these bridges offers spectacular views and is a prime observation point for admiring the constant traffic of gondolas, vaporettos (Venice's water buses), and other vessels that navigate the canal daily.
