Gurudwara Bangla Sahib
Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is one of Delhi’s most revered Sikh shrines, known for its spiritual significance and selfless service. Originally, it was a bungalow belonging to Raja Jai Singh, a noble in the Mughal court. In 1664, the Eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan Sahib, stayed here while visiting Delhi. During this time, a smallpox and cholera epidemic broke out, and Guru Sahib selflessly tended to the sick, offering them water from a small tank. It is believed that the water still holds healing properties, and the Sarovar (holy water tank) remains a place of faith for devotees.
Today, visitors can not only experience the peaceful atmosphere of the Gurudwara but also take part in the Langar (community kitchen), where thousands are fed daily. As part of this tradition, you can learn to make roti (Indian bread), embracing the Sikh values of equality, humility, and service to humanity.
