Rotonde de Mosta
The Mosta Rotunda, officially known as the Sanctuary Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady, is one of Malta’s most famous landmarks. Built in the 19th century in a striking Neoclassical style inspired by the Pantheon, the church is renowned for its massive dome—one of the largest unsupported domes in the world.
The Rotunda is also famous for the “Miracle of the Bomb” during World War II, when a bomb pierced the dome during an air raid in 1942 but failed to explode, leaving hundreds inside the church unharmed. Today, visitors can admire the impressive interior, religious artwork, and a replica of the bomb displayed inside the basilica.
