This tour is not just a climb, but a true pilgrimage experience. Kotohira-gu Shrine
Kotohira Shrine, known as “Konpira-san,” is one of Japan’s most famous pilgrimage destinations, reached by climbing 785 stone steps. Rather than being a simple visit, the journey itself is an essential part of the experience, as pilgrims gradually ascend through the historic approach lined with gates, statues, and offerings. Along the way, visitors encounter traces of long-standing faith, including symbols of proxy pilgrimage and maritime devotion. Reaching the Main Shrine rewards not only with panoramic views but also with a sense of accomplishment shaped by the physical act of climbing.

Izutama Shrine
Beyond the Main Shrine, an additional ascent leads dedicated pilgrims to the Inner Sanctuary area, requiring a total of 1,368 stone steps. This extended route transforms the visit into a deeper pilgrimage, as the crowds thin and the atmosphere becomes increasingly secluded. Along the way, visitors pass through sites connected to historical figures and mountain worship traditions, reflecting Japan’s long-standing spiritual relationship with nature. Reaching the Inner Shrine is not simply about arrival, but about completing a demanding journey that has long been considered an act of devotion.
