Union Tank
Its name “La Unión” commemorates Guatemala’s victory in the Battle of the Plough.
It was destroyed by the 1976 earthquake, but restored in neoclassical style in 1979.
A beautiful example of the Barroque style of the colonial era.
We will learn about the history of the construction process and many curious facts that make learning more enjoyable about its importance for current Guatemalan culture.
2
Nim Po't Centro de Textiles Tradicionales
It is a well-known textile and crafts center in Antigua, located just below the Arch of Santa Catalina (5th Avenue North #29).
In Nim Po’t you can find a wide variety of huipiles (traditional clothes), masks, home textiles and other typical Guatemalan crafts.
In addition, it operates on a fair trade approach, supporting local artisans. (This is part of their craft market mission.)
3
Arco de Santa Catalina
One of Antigua's most recognizable icons.
It has had many colors over the centuries (yellow, blue), although today it is mainly seen in the characteristic yellow shade.
It is a super photogenic spot for tourists and a symbol of the city.
4
Centro de Formacion de la Cooperacion Espanola en La Antigua Guatemala
Visit to the historical recovery project of what was the headquarters of the Jesuit congregation in Guatemala.
5
San José Cathedral Antigua
Tour to the monumental archaeological site of the ancient cathedral complex and catacombs
20 minutes
6
The Plaza Central Park
We will move to the time when the layout of the city and the symbolic representation that surrounds this square full of light and darkness began.
Visit to the Jade Museum where we will learn about the spirituality represented by jade in the Pre-Columbian Mayan culture.
7
Casa del Jade
On this visit you will immerse yourself in a fascinating journey through Mesoamerican history through jade, the so-called “stone of eternal life”. In the Mesoamerican Jade Museum you will see more than 70 pieces—original and replica—of the Mokaya, Olmec, Mayan and Aztec cultures.
Your guide will explain the different types and colors of jade, from its natural form to how local artisans carve it with modern techniques.
In addition, you will learn about the Mayan worldview: you will be able to discover what your “nahual” is, an animal guardian spirit according to your date of birth.
This space is in a beautiful colonial house (El Jaulón) from the 16th century, making it a stop full of architectural beauty and cultural identity.
